A man with a story, aged and worn, tired from the years, James Olafsson settle amidst the palpably obscure, lost in his thoughts and his memories, longing to once more find himself in that dream that had come to encompass his life. Yet time, it passes no man and now… now he finds all that he has left are his letters and his pictures and a tale that has been waited a generation to be told.
The maverick from Montana, Senator Olafsson is young, charismatic and charming, yet passionately intense. It seems that there is little that stands in his way as the road to ambition is paved in front of him. He’s waited, built and now the doors are opened to him and there’s little else left that he wants. Yet haunted, he thinks of the life he could have had, the life that seems to have alluded him all these years, knowing there is no such thing as second chances.
Chapter Two of Montana Skies sets the stage of the story amidst the turbulent times of the late 1960’s as it paints the picture of the young Senator full of unbridled hope and ambition, as he finds himself cast into the limelight that he has sought. Dreams of the White House and the Oval Office mark his way. Yet he can’t seem to escape this feeling, this lingering thought… that possibly something is missing…

He knew that he shouldn’t but he couldn’t seem to help it as his mind wandered back to those dreams… those dreams of what could have been. He didn’t know why he couldn’t just let the past remain there, where it belonged, locked away in the further recesses of his mind. After all, his life wasn’t bad; he had all that he could have wanted. Successful, charismatic, respected, in so many ways the world was his for the taking.
Still, he was haunted. Haunted by the memories that stirred deep within him that sense of discontent and the restlessness it made him wonder, even amidst all of his successes, about the road not travelled.
Behind the cold, sometimes distant eyes of Senator James Olafsson there lies another story of his life all together. A story that is seldom uttered yet all too often lived and relived.
Ambitious, powerful and driven, he was known to be man of passionate intensity with an iron will that would take him as far as he wanted to go. In his twenty years serving in the halls of Congress he had built the reputation for being a political force few would be able to reckon with. Now, as his star continued to rise, even the Presidency seemed like it could very well be his for the taking.
But before there ever was a Senator James Olafsson there was Pastor James Olafsson, a small town Lutheran preacher from the heart of Montana. And that would be the story that few people would actually know.
Haunted by the love that he had and that he had lost so many years before he can’t seem to erase the past or put it behind him. Even after two decades it still crept up on him, forcing him into those dreams of that life he could have had but that he had given up on so many years before when she left his life, shattering those hopes as she went.
He dreamed of it even still, knowing though that there was no such thing as second chances in his life…
That is until she suddenly, without warning appeared once more in his life with a secret she had kept buried for all those years and he is left to make the ultimate choice: the life he chose or the dreams he left behind.
A story of love and loss, woven against the vast open prairies and the halls of power in Washington D.C. Montana Skies tells the tale of those memories we can’t seem to escape and the hope that seems to dwell within the longing for second chances. Following almost 50 years in the life of a man who went from preacher to politician it tells of one on a journey of the soul seeking the longing of his spirit and another who’s looking for redemption amidst the pain of her heart as they find their lives inalterably woven together.
Romantic and heartwarming little is lost in the telling of this story as it paints a vivid picture inescapable for the reader.
